Still packing…

by W. Jiann on May.31, 2009, under Miscellaneous

9.52 p.m. at night now, and I am still doing all the packings for tomorrow’s Perkhemahan Anugerah Remaja Perdanan 2009. In fact, I am currently being stalled, due to the fact that I am pushing my house maid to finish ironing all the clothings (and anything else ironable) needed. Normally I would have done it by the morning or perhaps yesterday (generally due to parents’ persuasion and unwanted lecture to prepare early), but for today they have been rather busy for the company’s annual formal dinner in Sunway, the Australian Bee Gees charity dinner. Or else by now I could have finished all the chores, or facing the music.

The only thing that worried me the most is whether I am staying under a tent or chalet. I googled the location, Resort Pantai Sri Tujuh and was immediately noted that they do have chalets for visitors. But then, the event is a perkhemahan, additionally I read there is a camping service provided by the resort. Not to mention it is so gonna’ be my first time camping, if it is really going to turn out to be a real camping. Other than that, of course I do hope the perkhemahan will be one staying under the roof of a chalet. Well, at least I can admit that all these while I have been so aggresively spoiled that I have never stayed under a tent before, even during my National Service training.

Oh, okay, back to business. What else to bring?

A bathing towel should be more than enough, I believe.
Toothbrush, toothpaste.
Cleansing agents, a.k.a. soap bars, shampoo, facial scrub.
Writing stationery, just in case if required.
Cell phone battery charger.
Some other optional toys, e.g. books, playing cards, UNO.

By the way, catch you real soon after the camp!

VI Carnival, done!

by W. Jiann on May.31, 2009, under School life, Speaking of casual lifestyle...

I won’t go into details on the VI Carnival this morning. Strictly speaking too, the carnival was not all too much of glamour and fun either. Morning when I just reached there at 9.00 a.m. morning, there already seemed to be quite a number of people there already, as in, outsiders as you know.

Then later came the VI band, which actually had my honourable praise for their excellence in performing. Of course, I was expecting them to perform throughout the carnival, but then I was in fact dumbfounded to find out that they were gone after performing for the Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Dato’ Muhyiddin Yassin.

Other than that, there weren’t anything much to it. Catherine kept bugging me to buy the popiah sold by the Chinese Language Union (CLU). Some of my friends whom I have invited did make their appearance, and I was made the tour guide taking them around the school compound and telling them, “This is…”, “That is…”, etc. Thanks for coming, Radin and Kam Winnie (as well as her younger sister, Kam Jian Ni). Haha, I admit I find it hard to keep you people entertained, other than touring you people around. Well, what could I do when the only source of entertainment and fun for the day is only through buying the coupons and doing what you want with the coupons, which Radin and Winnie didn’t actually buy. Oh well. And speaking of that, while touring Radin around, somewhere near the school’s mosque just in front of the under contruction site of the Kemahiran Hidup block, I found 2 sets of coupons (RM 20 coupons) on the floor. Initially I wanted to keep it for my personal use; but well, since they did make an effort to come all the way here, although refusing to buy the coupons, so finally I decided to give it to them, sadfully.

The rest of the day was generally just okay, spending some time with friends, bugging them, chatting and making fun of people. And then, finally taking a seat next to Madam Nirmal Kaur on the entrance of the clock tower and started talking to her. No matter what, everything was fine. Though I was bored in certain occasions, generally speaking the carnival was a total blast! All hail Victoria Institution!

Okay, next up on the schedule.
This coming Monday (until Wednesday), Perkhemahan Anugerah Remaja Perdana 2009 in Kelantan.

So, see ya’ again after Wednesday!
Oh boy, I am so gonna’ miss updating my Facebook. Haha.

U6BM havoc crew, WTH~!

by W. Jiann on May.29, 2009, under Miscellaneous

Oh okay, Joshua and Kumer were here. They are perhaps the most ever ‘nightmare‘ you would ever want to see in a class, and yes, they are in my class too, unfortunately. Haha. In the end, the “U6BM havoc crew” title seems to suit them pretty well, really.

That was actually on Thursday some time after recess, at around 1.00 p.m. in the afternoon. Before that, it was them who actually requested Sri and I to monitor the Form 6 Chemistry laboratory for a while. And you know what, while we were actually expecting to see Puan Norzaidah’s shadow in the lab (because we initially wanted to consult her on something as well), Sri and I ended up so bored that we felt like owning the whole laboratory. She was like playing around with Pn. Xaidah’s laptop, switching it on, and browsing through all the files (and opening some) in the laptop. I was on the other hand, digging this, digging that, in a way where I opened and ‘checked out’ all the drawers on the teacher’s table. Nothing much interesting, though.

Regardless of that, we actually found a file named something like “Vijay.pps” on the laptop’s desktop. It actually sounds a little interesting to me, so we actually opened it. It was indeed something we never expected at all, (it’s no pornography anyway). In fact, it was a short animation, a really funny though lame one, that actually had something to do with sinuse (you know, the “sin” in Mathematics) applied in a pretty ‘applicable’ way. As the name of the file suggests, the name, Vijay does indicate there is an Indian animated (main) character in it, two in fact. Eventually turned out to be an advertisement! It was really funny, lame too! So, check it out when you ever use Puan Norzaidah’s laptop without any authorization.

On the other hand, we actually never knew what was going on with Joshua and Kumer. When they came back at about half an hour later, they actually asked me if there is one word that I will know what it is all about. The word, “Simplicity” as mentioned by Kumer. Of course, without a doubt, I knew that word as my blog, because I’ve been looking at this name over and over again whenever I open up my blog. Joshua then said they got stumbled upon the blog. Well, that’s nothing to me anyway. Of course, if I ever blog, all these blog posts are published online; so in the end, people will find out too (if they ever care to find), haha.

I couldn’t do anything much, but to laugh. Haha. ^^

To the U6BM havoc crew, a.k.a. Joshua and Kumer:
Well honestly I couldn’t say anything much. Haha. And what were you looking for that you actually stumbled upon my blog? (Suspicious)
No matter what, thanks for the visit anyway. I couldn’t say anything much, but to laugh about it! Haha.

By the way, tomorrow’s Victoria Insitution Carnival 2009 is so gonna’ be a blast, (hopefully). So, see ya’ people tomorrow!

You are made to finish your duet…

by W. Jiann on May.27, 2009, under Miscellaneous

Title is meaningless, it was just me humming to a song. By the way, as usual, I have been away from blogging for quite a while. And I wonder, why do I have to repeat that phrase over and over again?

While I have to admit being away from blogging temporarily is what blogging is to me, perhaps it is already a ‘characteristic that I possess that do not need to be mentioned repetitively. Okay, okay. This sounds more like me asking myself or perhaps telling others why am I born a Chinese, or why do I have black hair (even though in some cases, people often say that my hair are more brownish than dark brownish hair of most Malaysians), and why am I a male, etc.

Have got a couple of Chemistry experiment reports to get done with, as well as being threatened by teachers to handing in all the Chemistry notes this coming Thursday, and some Biology practical reports too. What initially thought to be a relaxing week, eventually morphed and turned out to be a tiring, full-of-homework week. Thank god beginning from next week’s a relatively long stretch of holidays (if you compare this mid-term holidays with other holidays).

But then again, it is my beloved, dedicated Chemistry tutor who makes it compulsory that we come back to school on the second week of the 2-week holidays for additional Chemistry classes. From that, this mid-term break does not sound that “relatively long” anymore. More like we have only a week of holidays, which is without a doubt, insufficient even for me to catch a breathe after long, tiring weeks of schooling.

Okay, rather than crying over the short holidays, I have already come up with a plan for this coming holidays.

These are some confirmed plans for the weeks.

  • This coming Saturday, the Victoria Institution Carnival 2009, specifically on the 30th May 2009, to be officially launched by the Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
  • Perkhemahan Anugerah Remaja Perdana 2009, organized by Victoria Institution for the Rakan Muda members. From 1 to 3 June, at the Resort Pantai Sri Tujuh, Tumpat, Kelantan.
  • On the 6th June 2009, my grandmother’s 90th birthday grand celebration and dinner at the Grand Imperial Restaurant, Bangsar Shooping Complex. More than 200 related relatives and friends from as far as Singapore, Penang, Ipoh, etc. are attending.

That’s all? Erm, casual outings are not counted, plus I never plan to do one either. However, someone just pushed me find to a suitable date (“tarikh”, not of the other meaning) for an outing and movie. No hard feelings, girls who adore me, or are my secret admirers, haha.

Now I better do something to get rid of all pimples and acnes on my face before the grand dinner. See ya’ at the facial spa!

5 centimeters per second

by W. Jiann on May.18, 2009, under Miscellaneous

5 centimeters per second.

Sounds cheeky enough for you? In fact, that’s a name of a Japanese animated film. And guess what, the animation has a freaking long name, if you consider the tagline too.

5 Centimeters Per Second: a chain of short stories about their distance (秒速5センチメートルアチェインオブショートストリーズアバウトゼアディスタンス Byōsoku Go Senchimētoru a chein obu shōto sutorīzu abauto zea disutansu)

Regardless of that, it is a beautiful romantic drama. In fact, it was a close friend who first introduced to me the animation. Plus, when I first watched the trailer in Youtube, I was immediately attracted to its beautiful graphics and sceneries as well as its background music. Haha.

Check out the trailer below.

According to Wikipedia (again), the animated film is a romance drama. You know, all the getting-to-know-each-other, and then love sparks. This is pretty much a boring thing already, haha.

For me, the plot or storyline is not quite the main thing I was looking for. The animated film is graphically awesome, as well as they have some really great piano and music at the background. Not to mention the film is popular at the same time. So, I guess there is no wrong if I’d like to check it out, right?

No matter what, I pretty much think it is a highly-recommended animation for all of you, especially when it comes to those who would die for Japanese anime.

Here, check out some pretty awesome screenshots too.

Mama means a lot to me. <3

by W. Jiann on May.10, 2009, under Miscellaneous

Happy mother’s day, to all the mothers who deserve it. Technically speaking, all mothers deserve it, right, regardless how good or even how bad or cruelly they treat us sometimes.

I love my mother a lot, really.

Here’s something I’d like to share with all the mothers in the world. Erm, they may not be of my original work, but I do mean it with all my heart.

“And so our mothers and grandmothers have, more often than not anonymously, handed on the creative spark, the seed of the flower they themselves never hoped to see — or like a sealed letter they could not plainly read.”   Quoted by Alice Walker

Bye-bye DiGi, hello Maxis. (Coming soon)

by W. Jiann on May.07, 2009, under Miscellaneous

Today was pretty much a pettily surprising day for me. My father actually came home with a new Maxis SIM Card. Erm, what significance does it have for me, you would wonder?

My father’s contruction company has just registered and applied for the Maxis Broadband Plan, where they actually offer a RM 10 rebate for Maxis customers. Hell knows why was my father so attracted with that just RM 10 rebate offer that he took the effort to immediately switch from his current Celcom line to Maxis.

He applied for the Value Plus 50 plan. I don’t really care about this, but what questions me the most is actually the total charge for his monthly bill. While under the Celcom Executive Plan, the total monthly charge for my dad alone is around RM 250 (and that was only after discount, undiscounted costs would be approximately RM 350 and above). You ask why, my father makes more than 20 or 30 calls per day during his work. Well, thankfully it is the company that actually pays for my father’s monthly cell phone bill.

(Laughing) I am sure Maxis is gonna' be my savior.

And then I wonder, again. At average usage of RM 250 per month, why not just apply for the Value Plus 250 plan? The major difference lies in the calling rates. The Value Plus 50 plan charges at RM 0.12 per minute for Maxis-to-Maxis, and RM 0.18 per minute for Maxis-to-Others, whereas the Value Plus 250 plan charges at RM 0.10 per minute for both Maxis-to-Maxis and Maxis-to-Others calls.

And since my father will use around RM 250 per month, I suppose the RM 250 monthly commitment fee is nothing much. Hehe, guess I will talk to my dad about it.

By the way, my father has now proposed to have everyone in my family to switch to Maxis, while retaining our numbers. Currently my mother, elder brother and I are all under DiGi prepaid plan. I do not actually hate DiGi that much, just that I generally dislike their poor line coverage and the idea of topping up credits every month or so. With the family plan under Maxis, all supplementary lines under my father’s Maxis plan will enjoy free calls and SMSes among each other!

So, if I am to switch to Maxis later, I will apply for a supplementary line under my father’s Value Plus 50 plan. That would put me under the Family Plus 30 plan automatically. Or perhaps I successfully convince my father to upgrade to the Value Plus 250 plan, then I will be having a supplementary line under the Value Family Plan, which also means cheaper call rates!

Now just waiting for the total credit under my DiGi prepaid plan to be used up. Haha.

Like what I said, bye-bye DiGi, hello Maxis. =p

I’m awefully impressed!

by W. Jiann on May.07, 2009, under Miscellaneous

I guess I need no further explanation or any ‘declaration’ for the lost of interest in blogging. Haha.

By the way, it’s been 7 or 8 years since I graduated from my primary school, SJK (C) Kwong Hon. I never made any effort to visit the school too. Perhaps because of my not-so-sweet or shall I just say, “nothing much lar” experience there. I was so young back then, and I was not too sure about everything I did there.

While I was there, for 6 years, nothing was impressive there. Buildings looked pretty rundown, old and boring. But now, SJK (C) Kwong Hon has gone through a thorough make-up and metamorphosis.

Try to take a look at this.

I thought to myself, “Has it turned into a private school now?” Simple enough, just a glance at it you would be impressed how beautiful the school looks, even if you are not from the school either. Of course, as a former full-time student there, I am certainly awefully impressed about the progress of SJK (C) Kwong Hon.

Now impatiently waiting for my chance to re-visit the school…
