Sidang Redaksi buffet at ParkRoyal Hotel

by W. Jiann on Dec.09, 2007, under Miscellaneous

Just have had an exciting time at Chatz Brasserie in ParkRoyal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur today. Gathered at the Bukit Jalil LRT station, we left that area roughly at about 11.20 am before reaching the Hang Tuah station about 20 to 30 minutes later.

Upon reaching there, some of us had been waiting at the station for another guy, while others go there by Monorail. And of course, I walked there instead with some of my friends, as I do not really see the point of sitting Monorail only for a very short walking distance.

Okay, about the restaurant now, Chatz Brasserie is really a spectacularly well-designed, stylish restaurant. Nevertheless, it offers a mix of international and Asian food and ala carte in an open kitchen concept.

The food there was fantastic, from smooth, moist cheese cake and chocolate brownies to one of the Malay traditional dishes, Roti Jala. Quite a lot of choice you can choose from, in an open kitchen concept manner, of course. They even had hot vanilla sauce there, which I’ve not even seen before. But one thing really disappointing was the amount of food available there, as I’ve seen more dishes and ala carte available in some other hotels. Of course, that doesn’t concern me much, though. Well, my friends did mention about the bad service there, but I personally don’t find it that bad.

As we’ve been having a great time there, our time in the restaurant was much longer than what I have expected before this. Started filling our tummies at 12.30 pm, finally we left that place at roughly 4.30 pm. So, in other words, we spent 4 hours there just to fill our tummies and chatting and taking photos. Personally, I had a total of 7 rounds enjoying the buffet there, before vomitting a small amount of cookie-vanilla ice-cream. Yes, it was disgusting, but I was lucky that I managed to cover up the whole incident with my hanky.

Overall, it was a great day being in Chatz Brasserie, excluding the part where I vomitted. Really, perhaps you should try it? RM50 (I think so) per head for the buffet is really worth the money, if you’re the type who love spending money on great, luxury food.

Again, boredom strikes…

by W. Jiann on Dec.07, 2007, under Miscellaneous

Yesterday, my attempt to browse my blog failed as I continuously received, “Server is unavailable.” in Mozilla Firefox. Perhaps it’s just another server problem faced by my web host? Other than that, life in the past few days had been rather boring, as well. Despite busy troubleshooting and reformatting my old computer due to its extremely-old age (10 years old, to be more precise), I find everything else is boring.

Speaking of my old computer, I’ve been formatting the harddisk for more than 3 times in just a week time. First was my attempt to do a fresh installation of Windows 2000 Professional. Not long after the formatting and installation appeared, I started realizing that the Windows is acting rather ‘weirdly’. So, nevertheless, I did another reformat and freshly installed Windows 2000 Professional SP4, but later ended up with a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). And again, reformatted it and ran several diagnostics and intensive tests to the computer using Hiren’s Boot CD and Ultimate Boot CD. This time, Windows 2000 did not face any problem, at least for now, except that the mouse is behaving rather weirdly after updating the system using AutoPatcher 2000 (August 2007 release).

Continued playing Final Fantasy VII, of course. This time, something really funny struck me in the game. Well, at least I did not even realized that the thing will occur to one of my characters. While I was on my quest to learn the LV4 Suicide, I battled Mus around the chocobo ranch and finally managed to learn the enemy skill. And of course, since my Red XIII’s level is the multiple of 4, the attack did do a 4000+ damage to it. Its side effect, Red XIII shrinked in size (which I didn’t know of till now) as if the enemy casted the magic, “Mini” on it.

UPDATE:
Attempted to update the screenshot to this post, it managed to upload the picture, but not applying the Lightbox effect. Allow me some time to examine the error.

Final Fantasy VII reborn (in my computer)

by W. Jiann on Dec.05, 2007, under Miscellaneous

After spending much time doing (almost) absolutely nothing, finally I decided to install Final Fantasy VII in my computer as I do miss the game quite a lot. Well, as a lunatic Final Fantasy fan, I have quite a vast collections of Final Fantasy games in my harddisk, from the original Final Fantasy to Final Fantasy IX, except Final Fantasy VIII. Generally, I’ve not even laid my hands on the earlier releases of the Final Fantasy series games, even though I do feel great collecting these games.

Thinking of Final Fantasy VII, isn’t it great if Square Enix could remake the game? As one of the most important games in the video gaming industry, the technical demo titled, “Final Fantasy VII: Technical Demo for PS3″ was unveiled in 2005 and had captured great response from thousands or perhaps millions of FFVII fans.

According to IGN, it stated the following: -

Unveiled on May 16, 2005 during Sony Computer Entertainment’s E3 press conference, the Final Fantasy VII: Technical Demo for PS3 was shown to the 2000 press members in attendance to confirm Square Enix’s development for the PlayStation 3. Recreating the entire intro of the original PSOne classic, the demo was created in real time and featured classic heroes Cloud Strife and Aeris Gainsborough. Unfortunately for Final Fantasy fans all over the world, Square Enix President Yoichi Wada stated after the demo’s airing that it was meant for display purposes only and was not proof of an actual remake of the original game.

My comment: Well, what can we do? Just wait and see…

Cineplex surprises

by W. Jiann on Dec.04, 2007, under Miscellaneous

For so many years of avoiding cinemas, I have finally stepped my feet into a cinema yesterday. Yeap, together with my brothers and relatives which made up a total of 8 of us, we went to Cineplex (just opposite IKANO shopping centre and IKEA) to watch Beowulf. Initially, I refused to go as I disliked the movie, in actual fact.

As some of you would have known, Cineplex itself has already been a movie haven for many movie-goers. Well, from the name of the complex itself, I guess it quite makes sense that it was built with outrageously gargantuan, beautiful cinemas (it has only one cinema, though). Opened several months ago, I was rather surprised that its interior is still under construction. Perhaps they’re putting some more interior decorations?

We arrived at Golden Screen Cinema (GSC) in Cineplex at about 11 pm, an hour just before the movie starts at 12 am. Yes, you hear me right, that movie was a midnight show, starting from 12 am till 2 am in the midnight. Despite it being the first time I watched a movie that late, I feel that the time was right for me, basically because I’m a nocturnal being. Other than that, the cinema is way more beautiful and larger than any other cinemas I’ve ever seen. On the scale from 0 to 10, it’s a definite that I’m gonna give it a 9. Later when we entered the auditorium, I never expected it to look that nicely decorated and furnished. Trust me, you’ve gonna’ go there to experience everything there.

Watching Beowulf may be my initial objection, I just love the experience watching the movie. All auditoriums in the cinema are all THX-certified, and you know what, I was blasted by the fact that the sound in the movie is so real and its surround sound technology (Dolby Surround) is remarkably superb, crystal-clear sound and out-of-the-world surround sound technology. Nevertheless, the graphics were another thing to be firmly praised of, the clarity and graphics of the movie are great, much better than any other movies, I believe. I too, believed that their projectors there are just superb and excellent, offering only the latest technology in the world of graphics. As for the movie, Beowulf, the entire animations in it look so darn realistic, animated characters and the world details are so real that you’ll be totally surprised about it. In the mean time, in terms of graphics and sound technology, I think it beats Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children by a really distant scale (even though I love FFVII: AC a lot). However, one disappointing fact was that the storyline of the movie is just a plain so-so. Watch it and you know why.

Had a great experience there, actually. Why not bother to check out Cineplex the next time you wanna’ watch a movie?

Life after SPM: Week 1

by W. Jiann on Dec.03, 2007, under Speaking of casual lifestyle...

Week 1 sure has been rather fun, honestly speaking. Even though I may have stayed in my house for almost the whole week, I did have some fun on Wednesday.

Yeap, I went out with Fui Sinn and Kelly to the Kuala Lumpur city centre for some shopping spree. Believe me, that day was really a hectic one. Okay, I’m not saying that I didn’t enjoy that day going out with my pals, but making decisions during that day was really hard. By the way, we were not shopping for our own things, instead, we dedicated our time for ‘perfecting’ our upcoming party by buying free gifts for all the members. Okay, it’s not a date or anything else. First time doing it, actually.

Sunday, if you still consider it as a part of the week, was really a catastrophic day in the history of my computer. Yes, it happened yesterday. All my searches in Google, Yahoo! or MSN were all redirected to anonymous websites. Initially, in my thought, it may be the problem faced by the search engines. By doing a little bit of investigation and inspection, finally found out that it was a malware, specifically a hijacker. Well, that was just the beginning part. Downloaded Spybot Search & Destroy, its scanning took me more than half an hour (didn’t really expect it to be that long, actually) but still failed to resolve that issue.

Confused by what was the cause behind the problem, finally settled down with the help of a anti-spyware tool known as “ComboFix” after spending hours of researching and googling. ComboFix.exe does look like a malware itself, as the McAfee Antivirus in my computer detected it as a malware. Nevertheless, I ran that tool and rebooted the computer. Poof, it worked. According to its logfile, kdywi.exe in the C:\Windows\system32 directory was the main cause behind the problem. What a relief! Thus, I announce this event as, the 2nd December 2007 Browser Hijacking Incident.

That was last week. Let’s just see what’s gonna’ come this week.
